The knock on the door came unexpectedly, sharp and insistent. Before I could even reach it, it swung open to reveal Caitlyn and Hazel, two college classmates I vaguely recognized but hadn’t spoken to much. They strode into my apartment like they owned the place, their confident smirks telling me this wasn’t a social visit.

“Alright,” Caitlyn said, flipping her blonde hair over her shoulder and leaning casually against the wall. She wore a leather jacket and a mischievous glint in her eye. “We’ve got a little debate, and you’re going to help us settle it.”

Hazel, shorter but equally commanding, stood beside her. Her dark hair framed a pale face adorned with a sly smile. “Yeah, we need your unbiased opinion,” she said, her tone dripping with false sweetness. “Which one of us is the better hypnotist?”

“What?” I asked, already sensing I should’ve just kept the door locked. “I don’t—”

“Relax,” Caitlyn interrupted, her voice smooth and soothing, like warm honey. “This won’t take long.”

“Yeah,” Hazel chimed in, stepping closer. “We’re just going to show you a few things, and you’ll tell us what you think. Easy, right?”

Before I could protest, Caitlyn’s piercing blue eyes locked onto mine. “Look at me for a second,” she said softly, her voice taking on an almost melodic quality. “It’s rude not to make eye contact when someone’s talking to you.”

I looked, unable to stop myself. Her gaze was magnetic, pulling me in as though there was nothing else in the world worth paying attention to.

“Good,” she said with a small smile. “Now, isn’t it fascinating how the color shifts when the light hits my eyes? You can almost lose yourself in them, can’t you?”

“No, I—” I started, trying to look away, but Hazel’s voice cut in.

“Don’t be rude,” Hazel said sharply, stepping into my line of sight. Her finger rose, moving slowly back and forth. “And look here. Follow my finger. That’s right… just back and forth. You’re doing so well already.”

I felt trapped between the two of them, my eyes flicking between Caitlyn’s gaze and Hazel’s moving finger. My body stiffened, my instincts screaming at me to resist, but their voices were relentless, weaving a web of calm around my thoughts.

“You’re feeling it now, aren’t you?” Caitlyn whispered, taking out a pocket watch and letting it dangle in front of me. “That heaviness in your limbs. That slow, irresistible pull. Just let yourself follow.”

“No… I don’t want to…” I murmured, trying to back away, but my legs felt like lead.

“Shh,” Hazel soothed, her tone turning syrupy sweet. “It’s already happening. You’re so good at relaxing. Just let us guide you.”

The pocket watch swung back and forth, its soft glint catching my eye despite my attempts to look away. Caitlyn’s voice was firm now, commanding. “Don’t fight it. Fighting only makes you more tired, more drained. Just let it happen.”

“You’re already slipping, aren’t you?” Hazel added, stepping closer until I could feel her presence overwhelming me. “So tired… so heavy… It’s easier to just listen. Just obey.”

I struggled, clenching my fists, trying to hold onto the last shred of resistance. But their voices were like a tide, eroding every defense I had.

“Sleep,” Caitlyn commanded, and her word hit me like a hammer. My eyelids slammed shut, my body collapsing into the couch as my mind went blank.

When I woke up, they were standing over me, grinning like victorious predators.

“Looks like we both win,” Caitlyn said, her voice filled with satisfaction. “So, here’s the deal. From now on, you’ll clean both of our apartments, hand over your money, and do whatever we tell you.”

Hazel leaned in, her dark eyes glinting. “And you’ll enjoy it. It’ll feel so natural, so right. You won’t even think about resisting us anymore.”

I opened my mouth to protest, but Caitlyn snapped her fingers, and my thoughts dissolved into compliance.

“Good,” Caitlyn said, smirking. “Now get started. Our apartments aren’t going to clean themselves.”

As I stood up, my body moving on its own to obey their commands, I knew there was no escaping this. Caitlyn and Hazel had won, and I was theirs.
